Yes, men who are NAKED and doing MAGIC TRICKS! I'm not a prude (OK, maybe just a little bit) but I was a bit nervous about attending this particular media preview. It was a Monday morning after all. Would I at least have time for a coffee beforehand?
The Naked Magicians are Christopher Wayne and Mike Tyler, both respected Magicians in their own right, with an impressive history of stage, television and corporate performances between them. The concept for The Naked Magicians was born presumably after a few drinks, when the question was asked 'What if Magic Mike was actually magic?' Their mantra is good magicians don't need sleeves and great magicians don't need pants! The creative team are quick to point out that the show is R rated and there will be nudity; although it isn't grubby or dirty at all. Expect to be amazed and very entertained, even when they are clothed.
I certainly was amazed; if magicians use sleight of hand to create illusions, where exactly where these guys hiding their props? They had top hats for modesty, but those didn't exactly stay in place... There was some fantastic magic tricks involving audience participation, with enough good humoured sleaze to keep everyone laughing but nothing actually pornographic. (Phew!)
This would be the perfect night out for a date, a girls night, something to do after a work dinner...I'd have no problem taking my husband or even my great aunt. Don't expect to see any penises, unless someone drops a hat during a photo opp. No, what? That wasn't me!
If you do want to see The Naked Magicians, be quick! Shows are selling out fast.
