A few weeks ago I set off a mild frenzy on facebook when I posted this question:
Off to #MurrayValleyPork evening to meet Manu. What should I ask him if I get the chance?
Well, a LOT of people had questions and even a few suggestions, but as I was a: with Mr BC and b: didn't want to get arrested, I ignored the suggestions and took mental note of the questions only. I like
Murray Valley Pork, they raise happy, cage free pigs to be delicious higher welfare pork, and then they sometimes send me some to cook and write about. I like this arrangement very much. Their spokesperson is Manu Feildel and he was going to be attending a posh night of pork canapes with some media and about 200 butchers and their wives, and I was kindly invited along.
When we got there, Sean the product manager quickly sought me out and asked if I had any questions for Manu, because after the presentation there would be a roving microphone and camera. For once I felt smugly prepared (thanks to your suggestions on facebook!) and said Why yes! I have lots!
At this point, let me dissapoint you and tell you I do not watch My Kitchen Rules. Yes, I know. I am the only person in Australia to not watch it. I love cooking, really, I just can't do the drama. There is a lot of television I don't watch. I think every butcher and his wife that attended Murray Valley's Pork evening where avid fans though.
Rachel had begged me to take her but I had already asked Mr BC, and besides, Rachel is a vegetarian so I felt I couldn't take her to a night dedicated to pork, even though she said she'd eat it for Manu.
Manu gave a very entertaining presentation, charmed every single person there, and had his photo taken about 300 times with a genuine smile on his face. The man is a legend! He was signing hundreds of posters for people and didn't stop being adorable once! I asked him to sign a special poster for Rachel and he happily obliged.

"Dear Rachel, Sorry but you are vegetarian, love Manu xx" |
Manu is very, well, french, and he is a master of the double entendre. At question time, a butcher asked about sausages What? Are we talking about my sausage? My sausage is bigger than your sausage! I'm sure some women fainted. One lady did actually fall over and drop her beer. My question was 'What is the most embarrassing thing in your pantry right now?' She wants to know the most embarrassing thing in my PANTS?? Said Manu, before he said 2 minute noodles.
Afterwards, the I thanked Sean the product manager for having us, and was quite shocked when he asked me to use the rest of my facebook questions to interview Manu to camera before I left. Just casually flung it out there - to camera. I almost fell over and laughed good heavens no, but I'm glad he insisted because a few minutes later I found myself singing
Sur le Pont, d'Avignon WITH MANU FEILDEL AS A SOUND CHECK FOR THE PRODUCER!!
Here is the interview. Afterwards I had to go and have a lay down. I am not on camera, thankfully.
Thank you Murray Valley Pork for letting me step outside my comfort zone and thank you to everyone that gave me questions to ask!
xx
