Last Friday,
Redcliffe Style and I had a
Blog Power Events meeting over lunch in an authentically grotty Mexican restaurant, and it struck me that I am actually living a pretty good life.
Don't get me wrong, there are still bills to stress over, no proper holiday in sight, never ending house reno's, and everything else that goes with general living. I'm still hot wiring the bloody car. But here I was, having a very nice Burrito and a beer in the middle of a sunny day, talking about the plans we have for a business that I partly own, about to go to a final rehearsal/media preview for Expressions Dance Company. And I just took a moment to say, you know what? This is nice. Life is nice. All those little moments add up, and I think they add up to more than their sum when you take a moment to appreciate them. So cheers to great moments!

The rehearsal was for When Time Stops, and man was it intense, in a goose-bumpy, teary kind of way. Apparently in the performance the lighting is treated as a separate character, so I can only imagine that will be incredible. The dancers are so talented, and super fit in that classical dancer way, and so in the moment..it really took my breath away. The music is preformed by a mainly string orchestra that moves around the dancers, and it was extremely evocative. Bravo!
This amazing fruit bowl was in reception. I really admire companies that take their employee's health seriously. Healthy eating habits are no doubt important in a dance company.
This is the place we went to for the Father's Day Picnic. There are thousands of places like this all over Australia, small camping/picnic areas just off the freeway. Peaceful and very beautiful. There where some fish in this creek and Mr BC was stoically unhappy to have left the rods at home. Because it was a FAMILY day.
After grinding their teeth all through lunch, the boys had a great time exploring the creek and doing some bush walking on a small track that looped around the picnic area. It was all carefree fun until Mr BC almost trod on a snake and scared the crap out of himself (and probably the snake too) It was probably a harmless carpet snake but it
might have been a brown snake, which are deadly, so after that, we played it (boringly) safe.
These toilets are part of the reason I detest camping. Erk. I can deal with tipping a cup of sawdust down the dunny instead of flushing but knowing that a few meters below you is the crap of everyone else that has sat in your seat is something I just find revolting. I'd rather hunt for snakes.
My '
weekend project' is about to get it's final coat of paint, and I cannot wait to finish and get it in the house! That colour is a bit scary for an heirloom dresser, isn't it, but do you see - even the paint is giving you the OK sign? The lady at the paint shop told me that this is the colour used for The Tardis, so I'm hoping I'll be able to fit a lot of stuff in there. Or at least travel to other planets.

The garden has almost finished it's winter crops, and soon it will be time to replant for spring. I loved growing cauliflower but with the whole garden full of brasica varieties it was just a festival of caterpillars. Also the plain cauliflowers seemed to cross pollinate with the purple cauliflowers, which didn't like it so much. The broccoli was not very big and cropped early, and the cavalo nero produced well but was mostly eaten by the caterpillar epidemic. I like to plant what we will eat but next time I will have to mix it up a bit or use a pesticide that isn't organic - these caterpillars seemed to develop a taste for chili garlic spray.

Finally, some quick pasta inspiration to finish on a high note! I made this for Mr BC who likes his flavours loud. This is cooked wiggly pasta (isn't that a technical term?) tossed with chopped tomato, chili, chopped green olives, feta, and some fresh garlic - rocket or parsley would have been a good addition. Served with slow roasted lamb cooked with lemon. Delicious!
