5 Songs from my soul

Blog every day in May challenge requests 5 songs that speak to me or bring back memories. Please know I tend to like high energy music so if you are after some soothing love ballads, click away now.

Love Shack - B-52s
For my hens night, me and the bridesmaids and a bunch of other ladies went bar hopping until dawn, and at the Marble Bar in the bottom of the Sydney Hilton the band played a cover of Love Shack. Someone had told them I was the Broide, so they (the band) where excitedly pointing at me and telling everyone "that girl is getting married next week!" during the song. I'm not a major B-52s fan, but Mr BC is. Last month he gave my number this song as a ring tone on his mobile, without knowing the song had memories for me from 2 decades earlier. Awww, sweet!

Vitriol - Blue Juice
I've blogged about this song before, and I still love it. It has a motivational power like no other, but *swearing alert* Probably not safe for work - OK definitely not safe for work. You have been warned! Also, if you are very religious, you might get upset. Just sayin!

Just a Girl - No Doubt
For a period of 6 months, just after I got my licence, I had to travel a long way to finish the semester of my studies before I could move them closer to my new home. A friend made me a mix tape and I used to sing this loudly, late at night, with the windows down, driving the freeway for 90 minutes, 4 times a week. In my new to me second hand Jeep. It felt like I'd been let off a leash, so exhilarating. Oh, the Grrl Power.

Konichiwa Bitches - Robyn
You guys this is so NOT SAFE FOR WORK, but the tune is so catchy. I used to listen to this song all the time on the radio, without paying too much attention to the lyrics. One day I was driving my boss to a client meeting, and was singing along to the radio without even noticing. Suddenly I look over at my stitched up straighty eighty, older male boss, and freeze at his expression. I swear I wasn't doing the movements.
'My left, my right, it's how I organise them, no need to fill my cups you know I'm super sizing'

Stand and deliver - Adam and the Ants
This song was a big hit just as I was starting to get into music, and to my feverish preteen mind I have never seen anyone as cool or delicious as Adam Ant. I couldn't understand why boys at my school didn't wear glam war paint every day. A few years later I would discover David Lee Roth, and forget all about Mr Ant.

Bonus Song!! How lucky are you!
Green Flower Street - Steely Dan. (actually Donald Fagin's Night Fly Album)
I love Steely Dan, I don't even care that they are played in the Supermarket these days. I love every one of their songs, except Ricky don't lose that number; which is ironic because that was their only major hit. When I was pregnant with Teenage Daughter I listened to this album and this particular song to and from the hospital all the time, and at least once a month since. She hates it, which is some more irony for you. "But it's the sound track to our lives!" I say. "I know" she groans.
