Birthday Post

Happy Birthday to me! I just turned 45, and although typing that feels like a lie (in my head, I am about 27) I was more than happy to celebrate. This year, my birthday coincided with Easter, so yay! Double celebrations and extra chocolate!

The day started out with cuddles and presents in bed, followed by a lie in while Mr BC did the school run. For lunch, we went to the opening of a local Guzman Y Gomez, which thoughtfully provided free burritos on my birthday and also balloons, a mariachi band and face painting to add to the birthday atmosphere. I was super happy to be wearing another mustache. This one looks hot.

This margarita was possibly the highlight of my day. I cannot think of a better thing to drink at Westfield.

For dinner that night we went to a local Chinese restaurant, which is one of my favourite things in the world to do. The boys were so excited to be in a proper restaurant. Monkey boy went to the kitchen to tell the chef that dinner was 'Bellisimo, Bon Appetite!' complete with exuberant kissing his fingers and throwing the kiss high in the air action. I remember lots of big family dinners at Chinese restaurants with aunts, uncles and cousins while growing up, and it always feels like such a cosy family thing to do. I hope my children can have that feeling as well, even if all their cousins are so far away. Oh well, it will have to be just us, team BC!

Afterwards we went for a walk in the park across the road, where Teenage Daughter found a little darling's special toy. She put it safely back in the garden, in case the little darling came back looking for it. Do your children love teletubbies? Mine always despised them, I don't know why.

Full moon at the beach, with my loved ones. Just lovely.

Where I live there are lots of trees lit up like this. I like it, but it looks a bit creepy. What do you think?

Then home for birthday cake and a rousing rendition of happy Birthday to You!

And now.......Easter. Prepare yourself for the following picture, it is quite scary.

Both boys go to a lovely catholic school, even though we are not catholic. I know people have strong opinions about this, but it works for us - it is a lovely school with an inclusive, nurturing culture. The standard of education is high, and the fees are reasonable. The boys learn about Jesus every day, and I have no problem with that - on the contrary, I think learning divinity is not a bad thing at all for children.

Anyway, I'm explaining all this because I was quite surprised on Easter Sunday; after the boys went to see if the Bunny had left chocolate eggs for them, they had one small egg each and then came in for snuggles and took their time telling me the Easter story. For a long time, in great detail. The Garden of Gethsemane, the crucifiction, walking the cross up the hill, the thieves who where also crucified, the last supper, what they ate, who was there...there was more. Then they demanded a proper breakfast before they got into the eggs.

Finally we got to the chocolate, and they were quite proud to tell me the eggs are hollow because it symbolizes the empty tomb. Or, as Monkey Boy exclaimed on taking a large bite from an egg bigger than his head 'Jesus is RISED!' Please know I am not complaining, I thought the whole thing was cute and educational.

Sunday afternoon at the dog park, enjoying some beautiful weather in some lovely bushland.
Maybe walking off some chocolate eggs/tombs.

Fish for dinner! These are Mr BC caught snapper fillets on a bed of onions, with a blanket of lemon thyme and lemons.

How did you spend Easter?
xx
