After I wrote
this post, I was offered a family pass to
Disney Live. And I was SUPER excited, because I knew it would be an awesome day out, and after
meeting with Tigger earlier, I knew that boys are never too old for the magic of Disney.
Our tickets where for the Monday 10am show, so Mr BC took the day off work and we drove to Brisbane Entertainment Center in a flurry of excitement. We got there 30 minutes early, because I
am anal about such things was anticipating a big crowd. When we got there, however....it was a graveyard. There was hardly anyone around at all, just one lonely dad and his mini mouse clad daughter. I wandered over to the box office to collect our tickets but they where closed, so I went to the Admin Counter and asked when the box office would open. Even in a graveyard this chick was busy - she had two phones attached to her head but she still managed to be cheerful. '
The box office isn't open today, because we have no shows scheduled for today' I opened my mouth in shock and she continued without letting me get a word in (she was good).
'Disney Live! is on at QPAC, at Southbank in Brisbane.'
I had gotten the venue wrong.
I rushed out to grab Mr BC and the boys, and admit to my dumb arse mistake. Luckily we try not to do Blame in this house, and focus on Solution instead. To the car!! (But first let the dad and his mini mouse kidlet know). At this stage we had 15 minutes to do a 30 minute drive.
Which we made in 20! Was it the traffic gods clearing our way? Was it Mr BC's emulation of
Stirling Moss? I think a bit of both. On the way I madly texted Anne at
Domesblissity (the winner of the giveaway) in case I had misinformed her as well. I hadn't, or if I had she was clever enough to figure it out and polite enough to deny I had. Either way, what a legend!
So we got there, we parked, we ran through acres of carpeted post apocalyptic architecture, we got to the box office and breathlessly requested our tickets....
Which where not there, because they had no record of us. They where so professional and polite and lovely, but some glitch had meant that we had no tickets. They hunted and hunted while the minutes ticked away, and I could hear the catchy Disney tunes taunting me through the walls while the boys amused themselves with the air conditioning vents that sit on the ground like portals. (portals that will blow your dress up like Marilyn Monroe, just saying..)
Eventually the most charming big wig came down to shake my hand and apologize, and pretend to know my blog (I
know, such a charmer!). This lovely man organised 4 tickets for us! And thanks to the quick thinking of his assistant, we got tickets for the 1pm show, rather than the 10am show, which was half over by this stage. I wish I had managed to get their cards or remember their names, because these two are truly a credit to Disney, and I suspect people like this are largely responsible for Disney's Magic.
So with a few hours to spare (and tickets safely in my handbag) we set off to wander.
First stop, the Lego Shop across the road, which I was lucky to get out of with my wallet intact. Did you know that there is a Lego version of virtually anything? The Lego Shop even runs holiday programs and birthday parties!
Next stop, a walk by Southbank Beach, which is a sandy bottomed pool right next to the Brisbane River, virtually in the middle of the city. I've heard people complain of it being dirty, but it looked pretty awesome to me. We hurried past with a chorus of
'Can we please go for a swim?? PLEASE??'
We walked past the wheel. Brisbane Eye? I don't know.
I think it was closed.
I didn't take a photo of this but I was delighted to find a small public vegetable garden right by the river, almost under the bridge. Tomatoes, beans, zucchini carrots, capsicum, all sorts of herbs. All thriving and obviously well looked after. Impressive!
We ended up walking over the bridge into Brisbane City and down Queens St Mall, where the Monkeys convinced us that Hungry Jacks was the best option for lunch. I think they where probably right!
Sneaky view of Queens St Mall from upstairs at Hungry Jacks.
And then it was back to QPAC in plenty of time for the show.
First we had a quick rest. Walking through the city is tiring!
Disney Live! Mickeys Rockin' Adventure was awesome, our family (and every family around us) really enjoyed it. I loved the ugly sisters, Monkey Boy seemed very taken with Cinderella. The Gentleman loved all the singing and dancing, as in
lurved it, maybe even making plans to run off and join the show. I think the thing that makes it so awesome is that we have had these characters in our homes through DVDs, toys and games for so long, it is an absolute delight to see them come to life in front of you. Woody, Jessie and Buzz have been friends to my kids for years. And here they are,
IN REAL LIFE!
One of the highlights was seeing Tigger, who came out with giant bouncy balls that he threw into the audience. Just fabulous. It was all fabulous!
And then this happened.
And it was GLORIOUS.
If you get the opportunity to see a Disney Show, my advice is to do it.
It's magical.
(Tickets are still available in Wollongong, Adelaide and Canberra.
