- Plan on making a banana cake, discover there are no bananas.
- Wonder where that 2 kgs of bananas has gotten to.
- Become discouraged and make a packet mix instead.
- Feel like a bad housewife because you never cook packet mix anything.
- Give yourself a stern talking to, it's just a cake! No one will even care, except you. Everyone will eat the cake and like it! You don't have to be Martha Stewart ALL the time!
- Get over yourself.
- Make the packet mix in an oven dish so it is shaped like a slice. Fancy.
- Plan on making chocolate icing, discover there is no cocoa. Sigh a little.
- Compromise again, and make lemon icing.
- Decorate with pecans. I like pecans.
- Eat a piece of cake and reflect on the nature of compromise. Do so while standing back, because your family is stampeding the cake.
- Smile because not one person asked if it was a packet cake.
