Life goes on

The beaches here are still closed after the floods, due to the high level of toxins in the water. For a while we had the most bizzare stuff wash up on the beach - a water tank, a mattress complete with it's bottom sheet, a dead shark, a lawn mower, enormous parts of Riverwalk, a forest worth of driftwood. It has all been cleared away now, but still no swimming. We have had to go up the coast on two occasions, for an emergency surf. Glorious.

These old fashioned jam drops where a big hit, but not with me. I am trying to change my eating habits, & it is getting easier to stick with it as time goes on. My aim is to cut out 95% of crap, improve the quality of carbs, increase protein & watch my portion sizes. I don't like the word diet, I want these changes to be for life, literally.

In an effort to improve my health I have been walking 4 times per week, about 7kms a time. I can still walk next to the beach, even if the beach is closed, dammit! In an effort to improve my financial outlook I bought cheap arse shoes from Target, that actually imploded after 3.5 months of pounding the pavement. False economy! I returned them for a full refund, which I recieved. Then I went to a sports store & bought some proper shoes like a grown up.

Inspired by Shauna Glen, I made some chocolate dipped strawberrys that where enthusistically hoovered down by the boys in this house. Ok I ate ONE, who are you, the food police??
(btw did you check out the size of Shauna Glen's massive berrys? )

If you are married to a Kiwi you will know how to cook mussels. I normally cook them in a spicy tomato & wine sauce & serve with fettucini; at Mr BC's request these where cooked ala Luke Nguyen in lemon grass & coconut milk. Nice, but I like my version better.

Like the rest of the world we have had some strange weather lately - these clouds where the tail end of a biblical style downpour as it went over the top of us & headed out to Moreton Island. I prefer walking in the rain - it is cooler, less crowded, & makes me feel virtuously committed to my health. Bonus!

What have you been up to?
