How was your January? Are you back in the swing of things yet? After an eventful January, I am slowly getting my 2013 legs. It's funny that I always start off the beginning of the year with high hopes and great plans, and then feel like a failure because
none of that shit is getting done.
December was such a busy whirlwind preparing for Christmas, by the time January rolled around I was a little tired. And broke, from Christmas. And then Mr BC had the
dramatic finger incident. And the result of that was no camping, fishing or even swimming for him, and by extension no camping or fishing for the boys, because I wasn't going to take them. I am a sushi train, museum kind of mum, not the outdoor kind at all. So plans where changed.
And then this happened. And plans where changed again, and again, before just being thrown away.

Yes - biblical conditions, here in Australia! First we had a heat wave so bad they had to invent new colours for the weather chart. (for real!)
Then, we had lots of bush fires. Lots and lots. All over.
Then we had a cyclone, sorry
ex cyclone Oswald. Which somehow came inland but kept a storm cell off shore in a large circle of heavy rain and wind for most of Queensland, and eventually New South Wales. The (ex) cyclone resulted in power outages, localized flooding and roads cut, if you where lucky. If you where unlucky you might have lost your house or even loved ones, before being airlifted off your roof or evacuated.
So all in all, I thought fuck that shit, I'm taking the month of January off. So, I did! I don't feel like a failure, I feel lucky. Lucky my house didn't flood, or burn down or get blown away. And despite not having air conditioning, my family and loved ones are still here.
And here we all are, the first of February. Power is back, floods are dissipating and school has started.
Big plans, people. Lets do this shit.
xx
Pretty crazy weather we've been having, huh? I feel extremely fortunate that we're all safe and well.
ReplyDeleteI do have a terrible head cold from all the sudden climate changes. But really, if that's the worse of it, I'm not complaining.
You always make me laugh out loud. Now that little mister has started kindy I'm only seriously treating the time from now as the proper start to my year and getting on with my big plans. So glad you were all safe through the recent weather. We fired fine but there are some pretty damn big trees blown down within a 30 meter radius of our house, pretty scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteLet's do this shit!

ReplyDeleteIt has been a crazy month! We live in Tassie, and had to evacuate because of fires. Luckily the fire was controlled early, unlike the Forcett fire further south.
ReplyDeleteYes, let's do this shit! Aptly said, love it.
ReplyDeleteYeah... this year has been kinda nuts! I think we're all already due for a decent holiday!
ReplyDeleteI am also officially calling January the beginning of the year.
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't have to face too many of those crazy weather conditions. It's just mad sometimes but I guess it's a totally normal (if not ridiculous) variation for such a big continent.
Stay dry and hope you AC is working again soon.
What a crazy month January was. Let's hope things settle back to normal (whatever normal is!) in February!
ReplyDeleteI learned recently that February is named for "purification", something we definitely need after a 2012 like 2012 was and then a January like the one we had.
ReplyDeleteI would demand a do-over, but last request was "more rain" so holding back on wishes right now.
Hi Lisa. It's me in bloggerville, don't get to excited. I am following you and suffering from first time blogger syndrome. Nobody loves me, is it the name of my blog ( too confronting) or am I just as boring as bat shit? All these people telling me for years that I should write, what would they know. Please tell me that you know better, I can cope with that. I can't cope with people reading my blog and not commenting., not connecting with me!!
