Bunnings FUN

This weekend we went to Bunnings. Big Woop de doo dah, I hear you say. National hardware chain, everyone goes there. And gets lost.

But this time it was so much fun.

Bunnings where having a carpark sale! There was free rides, free face painting, a brass band, and Monkey Boy's favourite....the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. Both Monkeys had a ball.

Monkey Jnr was a bit concerned he wasnt steering the big red car properly, but he relaxed a bit during the face painting.

"What do you want?" The tattood, ear stretcher wearing face paint artist asked.

"Whatever you like, go nuts" I replyed, foolishly.

"Cool!" She said, then painted a coffin on my 2 year old's cheek.

At least he didnt insist on eating a sausage sizzle while it was being done, unlike the Gentleman.

Check out that Spider!

Friday Night Salsa

Before the BC family moved to Brisbane 3 years ago, we lived in Sydney, around the corner from my sister. Now we live a 12 hour drive away, in Brisbane. My sister Cheryl Anne and I talk on the phone most days of the week, for about an hour each time.

Its a small island of relative calm in our respective casa de chaos's. Her monkeys yell at her, my monkeys yell at me. Sometimes all I can do is send her an sms. Come over for a vino, I've made Salsa. At least she knows Im thinking of her.

Salsa

The word Salsa actually means Salad in spanish, so feel free to mix it up with whatever you like. In America I'm pretty sure they would call this Pico de Gallo, which sounds much fancier. But no one would know what I was talking about in Brisbane.

Finely chop the following and combine well;

  • 4 large tomatoes

  • 3 spring onions

  • 1 big handful of parsley

  • 1 big handful of coriander

  • big pinch of salt

  • big glug of olive oil

  • small glug of white wine vinegar

  • teaspoon of minced chili

  • teaspoon of minced garlic

  • big squeeze of lime (or lemon will do)

Banana Bread

I dont know about you, but this week went by so quickly & yet I am exhausted! I hardly did anything.

On Tuesday I started this blog. Phew! Tick the box on that one.

On Wednesday I volunteered at Gentleman Monkey's School Tuck Shop, which was actually not so bad. (And newsflash: I dont think the P&C will actually burn me at the stake any time soon).

On Thursday I did the MEGA grocery shop. You know the one where you almost need two trolleys? Yep.

On Friday it rained, so Monkey Jr & I cleaned the house from top to bottom. Well, one of us did. Then we made Banana Bread.

Banana Bread

Warning: ingredients will not be listed separately, but highlighted in red. You where going to read the recipe to the end before attempting it anyway, right?

  • Process until smooth half a cup of butter with 1 cup of sugar (I like to use raw organic sugar)

  • Add in 2 eggs, 3 large chopped ripe bananas, and 2 tablespoons of yogurt. Pulse til smooth.

  • Separately, combine in a large bowl; 2 cups of plain wholemeal flour; half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda; 1 and a half teaspoons of baking powder; 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon; and 1 cup of chopped pecans.

  • Mix wet mix into dry.

  • Pour into a greased and lined loaf tin, regular size. Place 1 sliced banana on top, sprinkle with a little bit of extra sugar.

  • Bake in a medium oven for about 1 hour. It might take a bit longer, this is a very moist loaf. If you need to, cover the top with foil so that the top doesnt get burnt while the inside cooks properly.

I wanted to show you a photo of the whole thing, but his was pretty much all that was left. Yum!

Moments of Joy in a Demented Circus

Hello, and welcome to Mrs BC's house of Chaos! It gets a little crazy around here, and so the main reason for me to blog is to inspire myself by noticing the little moments in life that ordinarily pass right out of your conscious brain & bypass the memory bank...moments like the 2 year old Monkey smiling his adorabubble smile while demanding ice cream for breakfast; the 5 year old Gentleman Monkey and his many amazing outfits; or Teenage Daughter spreading her wings and navigating out of childhood. Or, the house flooding. Or, the creation of our vegetable garden courtyard complete with fireplace. Or the P&C burning me at the stake. Time will tell.

I want to journal and organise my thoughts, sharpen my writing skills, challenge and improve my diplomacy skills. I have problems with Sarcasm - wait, no I don't. :-)

I just hope I'm not boring.
